Avoid These 5 Common Errors When Installing LED Headlights

Posted

Installing new LED car headlight bulbs can give you better visibility at night and in poor weather conditions. But even a small mistake during installation can affect how well they work — or worse, create safety issues on the road. Here are five common errors that you would want to avoid before you get started:

Incorrect connections

Incorrect wiring or loose connections can lead to flickering headlights—or worse, prevent them from turning on at all. Always double-check that the connectors match your vehicle, confirm the polarity, and use the right adapters, especially if your car uses a CAN system. This helps avoid both lighting issues and dashboard errors.

Incorrect aim

You know it too well: driving at night, you encounter an oncoming car whose headlights blind you because they were not adjusted properly. You can check if your low and high beams are properly aligned by checking your lights on a wall at night. The light should be pointing straight ahead, with a slight downward angle during the low beams and pointing a bit higher during the high beams.

Poor ventilation

If LED lights aren’t aligned properly, it can block ventilation in the headlight assembly. This traps heat and leads to dimming. To avoid this, install all fans and heat sinks correctly, and check for any obstructions after installation.

Wrong wattage & LED type

Avoid using LED car headlight bulbs with the wrong wattage or ones that aren’t compatible with your vehicle. Always choose LEDs that match your car and have the correct wattage, typically between 35W and 55W.

Non-compliance

Each region has specific laws for LED car headlight bulbs, and it’s important to follow them. Some brightness levels are illegal as they can affect road safety and distract other drivers. Always check if your LEDs comply with local regulations.
